About La Havana Madrid

Step back in the time of 1960's Chicago and right into La Havana Madrid, the long-gone Caribbean night club that drew throngs of newly-arrived Latinos to the city's north side. A vibrant, musical venue, La Havana Madrid also became a cultural hub where these new Chicagoans flocked to celebrate and remember.

Inspired by real life stories, this intimate recreation of the lively 60's music club features live music that will immerse you in the pulsing sounds of that decade from the mambo to the new sound salsa.

La Havana Madrid is an immersive, documentary-style theater experience conceived and written by Teatro Vista Ensemble Member Sandra Delgado, based on the true story of the 1960s nightclub, La Havana Madrid, which once existed at Belmont and Sheffield in Chicago. Audiences will be invited into an intimate recreation of the lively 1960s music club, with cabaret seating, a bar, a dance floor and a live band.

Fellow Teatro Vista Ensemble Member Cheryl Lynn Bruce directs Delgado’s theatrical, cinematic history of Latino Caribbeans in Chicago. Legendary Colombian-American musician Roberto "Carpacho" Marin, and his band of 30 years, Carpacho y Su Super Combo. will play live every show, with Delgado as lead singer. Together, the play’s band and cast will chronicle the history of Caribbean Latino music through the decade, from mambo to the birth of salsa, all in a live, nightclub setting.
