ABOUT THE PLAY:

There’s a Coqui In My Shoe! is a theatrical adaption of the Award-Winning Children’s

book written by Marissa de Jesus Paolicelli. There’s a Coqui In My Shoe! is a

distinctive and delightful story celebrating Puerto Rico’s national treasure, the

Coqui. It splendidly captures, the vibrant colors and culture for the island.

Carlito, the Coqui has lost his way from the rainforest. With the help of Armando, his

new friend, Carlito’s adventures highlights Puerto Rico’s rich heritage. There’s a

Coqui In My Shoe! is full of yummy tastes, bright colors and dramatic sounds, and

Puerto Rico’s cultural importance is described in each scene and places mentioned

such as El Morro, El Yunque National Rainforest, Old San Juan, Casa Rosa and white

sandy beaches.

 

TMC's Adult Theatre announces auditions for the world premiere of its newest work -- "There's A Coqui In My Shoe" adapted from the award-winning author, Marisa de Jesus Paolicelli, playwright, Roberto Negron, adapted the book to the come on alive on stage this Fall.

Auditions Dates:

 

June 28th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

June 29th from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

July 6th from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

July 12th & 13th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

 

Material to prepare:

Ages: 18 +

 

Please bring a headshot and resume (9x11 photo of your face with a list of shows you have been in).

 

Please prepare a 90 second package consisting of a 60 second contemporary monologue and a 30 second 16 bar cut of a song. You may play your own accompaniment on your cell phone, or a cappella is acceptable.

CARLITO (COQUI) Adventurous, funny, charming, warm, honest and brave.

QUALITIES: Puerto Rican. Early 20’s. Small build. No facial hair. Able to play small boy. Funny, confident. Have improvisational skills. Able to work an audience. Singing and dancing ability. Works well with children. Experience in Children’s Theatre Productions a plus. SEEKING PRINCIPAL and UNDERSTUDY

 

ARMANDO Soft spoken. Studious. Easy going, honest and loyal.

QUALITIES: Puerto Rican. Early 20’s. Small build. No facial hair. Able to play seven year old boy. Engaging. Have improvisational skills. Singing and dancing ability. Works well with children. Experience in Children’s Theatre Productions a plus. SEEKING PRINCIPAL and UNDERSTUDY

 

LOLA Confident. Warm, hospitable and charming mother with a sense of humor.

QUALITIES: Puerto Rican. Early 20’s-40 yrs. Singing and dancing experiencer. Have improvisational skills. Works well with children. Experience in Children’s Theatre Productions a plus. SEEKING PRINCIPAL and UNDERSTUDY

 

MARISA (COQUI) Funny. Adventurous. Witty.

QUALITIES: Puerto Rican. Early 20’s.Small build. Able to play little girl. Singing and dancing ability. Have improvisational skills. Works well with children. Experience in Children’s Theatre Productions a plus.

 

TOMAS (LIZARD) Funny, whimsical, playful.

QUALITIES: Early 20’s.Small build. Able to play little boy .Singing and dancing ability. Have improvisational skills. Works well with children. Experience in Children’s Theatre Productions a plus.

 

MAESTRO COQUI (COQUI MUSICAL CONDUCTOR) Funny, whimsical, strong comical character. Able to play crowd.

QUALITIES: Early 20’s-50 yrs. Small build. Singing, dancing and improvisational. Works well with children. Experience in Children’s Theatre Productions a plus. SEEKING PRINCIPAL and UNDERSTUDY

 

ENSEMBLE QUALITIES: All ethnicities. Excellent dancing and singing abilities. Acrobatic, Silk skills a major plus.

First Rehearsal: Aug. 7th

 

Rehearsal Days:

Mondays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Tuesdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Thursdays from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Fridays from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

 

Tech Week: Monday, Sept. 10th – Sept. 14th from TBD
